A New Year’s Resolution

The internet and applications connected to my smart phone have not only made things convenient but at the same time also accelerated everyday life in a way that puts the television programs and video games of my childhood years to shame.

The flip side of this speeding up, however, is the incessant demand to be up to date. It is as if you are compelled to share every idea, every experience, every minute aspect of your life to everybody’s gaze. The added hectic pace of life often ends up in the reproduction of canned thinking and sound bites.

I have decided to avoid being captured by this ceaseless injunction to signify one’s presence online, slowing down not only for everyday tasks but also to give space for critical reflection which may not necessarily end up online.
