Alain Badiou on the Dominant Ideology

I disagree with Badiou’s conflation of the philosophical contradiction between materialism/idealism (which has to do with the question of the relation between consciousness and the material world) and the more commonplace understanding of the two terms (as having to do with being materialistic or idealistic), a point also raised in the open forum at the end of the video.

But on a descriptive level this is a good explanation of the inner workings of the dominant ideology today, the limits of bourgeois democracy, and the new conformity with which global capitalism is accepted as the only possible world. More importantly, the underlying message of winning over the backward middle classes from the stranglehold of bourgeois ideology to the side of the proletariat is also commendable.
